Over 100 guests crammed into the 11th floor winter garden to support ad agencies Maxus, Goodstuff and Astus as they cooked up a culinary storm in their efforts to take this year's title.
‘Best of British’ was the theme of the day and this year's judges – Pied a Terre’s David Moore, Bob’s Lobster’s Rob Dann, Dave Crompton from The House of Gastrophonic, The Engine Company’s Robin Wight, Time Inc. UK’s group food director Jane Curran and esteemed chef Mark Hix - struggled to pick a winner, such was the high standard of cooking.
While they wrestled with their decision, guests were entertained by a quick-fire trifle-making competition hosted by Essentials/Goodtoknow food director Jen Bedloe, in which the contestants covered themselves more in cream than glory.
In the serious competition, the judges made their decision and it was congratulations to Megan Lathwood and Harry Moss of Goodstuff, whose ‘Picnic by the Pier’ of Scotch quail eggs with homemade mayonnaise and asparagus salad, followed by seabass on a bed of crispy potatoes, bacon and samphire – all washed down with some English ale – was judged to be the very best on the night.
Lisa Batty, marketing director, Advertising – who coordinated the event – said: "This is the second year of Mediachef and the competition to take part, the quality of chefs amongst our agencies and the transformation of the 11th floor of the BFB into a fantastic venue was truly overwhelming.
